Dr. Lignos joined the McGill University Department of Civil Engineering and Applied Mechanics in 2010 from Kyoto University, where he was a JSPS postdoctoral researcher in the Laboratory of Earthquake Resistant Structures. He was also a post-doctoral researcher at Stanford University in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. Dr. Lignos received his Ph.D. in Structural Engineering from Stanford University in 2008, where he also earned his M.S. degree in Structural Engineering in 2004. He received his diploma in Civil Engineering from National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) in 2003. Dr. Lignos was recently honoured with the 2011 Outstanding Teaching Award from the Faculty of Engineering at McGill University, as well as the 2012 and 2013 Outstanding reviewer award from ASCE, the 2013 State-of-the-Art in Civil Engineering Award by ASCE and the 2014 Christophe Pierre Award for Research Excellence - Early Career from the Faculty of Engineering at McGill University. He was recently appointed as a William Dawson Scholar for Infrastructure Resilience for a 5-year term. He serves as an academic advisor to the Canadian Society of Civil Engineering (CSCE) Student Chapter, and as a member to the CSCE Education and Research Committee.

Dr. Lignos is an associate member of ASCE, Earthquake Engineering Research Institute, and a member of the ASCE Seismic Effects committee. He is currently involved as a NEHRP consultant in a number of projects applicable to engineering practice through the Applied Technology Council (ATC).
